fāṣūlyā

The article

Spanish kept the Arabic article al- glued to the word.

Arabic itself had taken it from Greek.

The story

L is a sun letter, so al-lūbiyā is said with a double l, and it became alubia. Today in the Levant lūbya is the green bean or the black-eyed pea; the common bean is called fāṣūlyā.
