Andalucía

autonomous community in southern Spaincomunidad autónoma del sur de España

al-andalus

“Arabic name of the Iberian Peninsula under Muslim rule (it has no other meaning in Arabic)”«nombre árabe de la Península Ibérica bajo dominio musulmán (en árabe no tiene otro significado)»

al-andalus

And it still does

The article

It came in without the article.

The story

That Andalucía comes from al-Andalus is certain; where al-Andalus comes from is not. Proposals include "land of the Vandals", a Gothic *landahlauts ("land divided by lots") and even Atlantis; none has been proven. For the Arabs, al-Andalus was all of Muslim Spain, not just the south.
